If you are a business seeking investment, we can offer you the opportunity to secure start up and development investment directly from a wide range of investors.

What is EIIS?

The Employment Investment Initiative Scheme (EIIS) is a tax relief which aims to encourage individuals to provide equity-based finance to early-stage trading companies. Green Crowd facilitates, via its crowdfunding platform, for individuals to invest directly through private placements in start-up or growing businesses and to receive tax relief of up to 50% on their investment. To benefit from the full tax relief, investors must hold the shares for the full four-year term.

EIIS is one of the few sources of total income tax relief (which includes, for example, rental income and ARF distribution income) still available to Irish taxpayers.

As of 1 January 2024, there are now three tiers of tax relief available to qualifying EIIS companies:

  • 50% for investments in businesses that have “not operated in any market.”
  • 35% for investments in businesses that are within 7 years of its first commercial sale or 10 years of incorporation. .
  • 20% for investments in businesses that are moving into a new economic activity

When deciding whether or not raising EIIS funds is the right path for your company, we recommend engaging an EIIS tax professional to assist you in ascertaining whether your company is eligible under Revenue guidelines.

The most important part of this process is your business plan. There are many requirements that need to be covered in your business plan to ensure that your company is eligible to raise under EIIS.

Details of what is required in the business plan are set out in Article 21 of General Block Exemption Regulation (GBER).
